Multiple explosions blow off roof of abandoned club in Kolkata's Paikpara

Multiple explosions occurred early on March 7 at a closed club on 1/2C Gangulipara Lane in Paikpara, central Kolkata, causing widespread panic among residents. The blasts were powerful enough to blow off the club’s tin roof, which landed on a nearby multi-storey building, prompting urgent police response.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing at least five loud blasts around 6:11 AM. The club’s doors were blown off, and the interior caught fire. Residents alerted the Chitpur police station, which immediately informed the bomb squad. Police teams, along with bomb and dog squads, rushed to the site to investigate and secure the area.

Locals suggested that the explosions could be linked to a promoter dispute, as the club and adjoining premises had previously hosted events that had led to conflicts. The abandoned club had remained closed for 6–7 months, although outsiders were occasionally seen visiting the premises. Authorities are investigating whether explosives were deliberately stored inside due to these disputes.

The incident has raised security concerns in the area, with residents demanding enhanced police presence and installation of CCTV cameras around the club. Authorities are ensuring safety measures and closely monitoring the vicinity for any further threats.

With the West Bengal Assembly elections approaching, the explosions have intensified fear and anxiety among residents. Police continue to probe the motive and have assured the public that all necessary precautions are being taken to prevent further incidents.
